Description

Jarnal is a free, open source program designed for keeping a journal, notetaking, sketching, making presentations and an excellent annotating document including PDF files. It is written in Java which means you can edit and view files on almost any platform.

It is a great alternative for other tools such as Microsoft® One-Note® (formerly known and developed as Microsoft® Windows® Journal®) and other commercial tools that will require you to buy them to use similar features that are available for free in Jarnal.

Note: We currently list the Microsoft® Windows® and Linux versions which are offered as a ZIP archive. If you wish to download the Linux Debian version, go to Jarnal official site. Also, please note that the Mac® OS X® version is offered as a test version so use it at your risk.

Trademark Note 1: Microsoft®, Windows® and other product names are either registered trademarks or trademarks of Microsoft Corporation in the United States and/or other countries.

Trademark Note 2: Mac and OS X are trademarks of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries.

Jarnal Review

Whether they need to take notes for work, school, or just to serve as personal reminders, many people opt to use software and apps rather than the traditional paper and pen. After all, so many people carry a smartphone, tablet, or even laptop everywhere they go. If you're interested in installing a note-taking app for daily use, you should consider Jarnal, a program created by David K. Levine and Gunnar Teege.

Jarnal Features

Written in Java, Jarnal is an open-source note taking and sketching application. Not only is Jarnal intended for freehand note taking and drawing, but it also has features that allow users to annotate imported PDF files and pictures. Users can use the following tools to assist their free hand note taking:

- Graph paper

- Arrow tools

- Ruler

Those who want a note-taking software to use at school or in the workplace will be happy to know that Jarnal supports collaborative writing. This feature allows more than one user to edit a file at the same time. If you're working with a group to get a project done, this collaborative feature will boost productivity significantly.

This software is compatible with a stylus, keyboard, or mouse, which means you can use it on most laptops, tablets, and smartphones with ease. Jarnal even has a feature that allows users to record pen strokes and turn them into cool animations. The handwriting recognition boosts the ease of use of the stylus with this software. Due to its features, Jarnal is frequently compared to Microsoft® Windows® Journal®, Mimeo whiteboarding®, and the Palm Notepad® applications.

What Does Jarnal Allow You to Do?

Users can make presentations, keep a journal, take notes, and draw pictures with Jarnal. At work or school, it is often necessary to present data and findings to peers. Not only can users single-handedly do this with Jarnal, but the collaboration feature of this software allows an entire group to work with each other in real time.

Unlike Microsoft® Windows® Journal® and Microsoft® OneNote®, Jarnal lets users access files created with the software on any platform; it is possible because files are written in Java. The editor of Jarnal is both customizable and redistributable, which means users will not have to worry about encountering compatibility issues.

Without a doubt, everyone could benefit from a good note-taking app. Without a doubt, Jarnal is one of the few applications out there that provide users with the flexibility and the features they need on a day-to-day basis. Try out Jarnal and it may boost your productivity levels significantly.
